The Bloomista Cocktail April 28, 2020
Back in March, a group of us came together for an evening of “Crafts and Cocktails.” It was a great night filled with laughs, food, upbeat music, and most importantly THIS cocktail. Despite having consumed more than our share we somehow still managed to do a decent job on our crafts which included letter bead bracelets and stamped canvas pouches.
The cocktail is based on a lavender-infused simple syrup. It sounds fancier than it is super simple to make. I love using different ingredients to make simple syrups because they are easy and very effective at dressing up your drinks. I often will use fruit that is not so “pretty” anymore to make a strawberry or raspberry version.
Your basic simple syrup is always 2 parts sugar to 1 part water. For this lavender version, I used 1 cup water to 2 cups of sugar and ¼ cup of lavender. I bought this one at Amazon.
After boiling the water for a little bit I turn off the heat and added the lavender so that it doesn’t turn bitter. As an aromatic, I threw in a few springs of thyme. Then, I let it sit for 15-20 minutes. To properly strain I used a paper towel as a second screen to ensure that no bits of lavender escaped.
